This was the home of John Harrison (b. 1813), Elizabeth Ormandy (b. 1813) and their younger children at the time of the 1861 census. John and Elizabeth were Henry Harold Harrison Sr’s great grandparents. Great George Street is the first address we have for John and Elizabeth in Wigan after they moved from Adlington sometime after 1853. They later moved to 17 St. Thomas Street where they were enumerated in 1871.
Great George Street runs north-west off Wallgate immediately west of the railway bridge. It is an old street, shown on ordinance survey maps dating from 1849. It is also a modern street near the centre of Wigan.
