Research Notes
The family was living in Heath Charnock, just north of Adlington, when William was born in 1838. They evidently moved to Adlington sometime in the intervening two years, althought John was still in the same job. A (Canal) Bank Ranger looked after all aspects of a section of the canal waterway including locks, canal traffic, licences, etc.
