Research Notes
This is our best candidate for the wife of Edward Ball (b. 1743) per his marriage register. She has the right name (albeit spelled differently), is the right age (three years younger than Edward), and came from a village only about 3km from Upholland and also close to Billinge where Edward and Ellen first lived after their marriage. Edward and Ellen also named two of their children Daniel and Mary, names that did not come from Edward’s side of the family. The unusual aspect of this marriage is that it is the first known Ball marriage to someone outside the Church of England.
