7 St. Thomas Street, Wigan

17 St. Thomas Street, Wigan was the residence of John Harrison and Elizabeth Ormandy and their family in 1869 according to an entry in the Wigan Directory for that year. It was also the family home at the time of the 1871 census. In addition to children JemimaJames, and Henry, granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Williams was also enumerated here as was Elizabeth’s nephew, James Ormandy. The family presumably moved to this address sometime during the 1860s from their former residence on Great George Street. John Harrison’s mother, Jemima Whittledied at this address in 1871.

7 St. Thomas Street was the residence of James Ormandy and his family in December 1865. We believe James was the brother of Elizabeth Ormandy (see Elizabeth Ormandy’s bio).

St. Thomas Street runs west off Caroline Street in the centre of Wigan by St. Thomas Church. It is no longer residential and is in a somewhat derelict industrial area.
