Hay’s Farm was the residence of Edward Ball (b.1802) and his family at the time of the 1861 and 1871 census. The farm was next to the Royal Oak Inn where, we believe, Edward’s son Henry (b.1823) was the innkeeper.

We have not pinpointed the location of this farm which does not appear on the 1849 Ordinance Survey Maps, although it was probably in Standish Lower Ground just north of the River Douglas.
