Biography

John Harrison is the earliest ancestor we have found so far having the surname Harrison. John was a farmer, who lived all of his adult years farming in the Standish area.

Our first record of John is his marriage to Alice Brimeley, a local girl, at St. Wilfrid’s Anglican church in Standish on 2 April 1771. The marriage register identifies him only as a husbandman (i.e. farmer) living in Standish. From this record, it is likely John was born circa 1746 (most people of the day married in their mid-20s).

John and his family might have moved around, as they baptized some of their children in Standish and others in Coppul.
