Biography

Robert Chippindale was born in the Garstang area in 1759. His ancestry has not been traced, but there was a very large family of Chippindales in the area dating back to at least the 17th century. Robert married Nancy Gardner at St. Helen’s Anglican church in Garstang on 31 January 1785. Nancy was pregnant with the couple’s first child at the time.

Robert and Nancy settled in Cabus. Although there is no record of Robert’s occupation, Cabus was (and still is) an agricultural area. Robert and Nancy had seven known children, two of whom died in childhood.

Robert Chippindale died in 1819 at age 60. He is likely buried in the churchyard at St. Helen’s church, but his grave has not been located.
