Biography

Sarah Ellen Belshaw was born on October 7, 1883 to James Belshaw and Mary Ann Bunney. According to Sarah Ellen’s birth certificate and baptismal record the family was living at 11 Wood Street, Wigan at the time and father James was working as an overlooker (supervisor) in a cotton mill.

We have not found a 1891 census record for Sarah Ellen. She was enumerated in the 1901 census living with her parents at 105 Manchester Road, Ince-in-Makerfield. Her occupation, per the census, was “domestic duties at home.”

On September 4th, 1902, Sarah married Joseph Harrison at St. George’s Church in Wigan.
