31 Swann Street was the residence of Joseph Woods at the time of his marriage to Jemima Harrison in July 1895. We assume the address was Swann Street although the marriage register address is spelled “Swan Street.” We cannot locate Joseph in the 1891 census and, although he was from Wigan, he had probably only recently moved to this address.
Swann Street was located behind the Victoria Mills (now demolished) just north of Wallgate. There is a Swann Street in that location today, located about three blocks north of the Wigan Pier Heritage Centre.
